Jacinta Asi Ocansey is a popular stand-up comedian, singer, and actress from Ghana. When it comes to comedy in Ghana, she has been given the title: “Ghana’s only comedienne” and “Queen of Ghana comedy”. She has gained much recognition through her profession as a comedienne and has won for herself through hard work and determination, some awards. These include Ghana Tertiary Awards 2016 Most Influential Student Comedian, Most Popular Student, and Most Entertaining Student.

Early Life of Jacinta Ocansey

She was born and raised in Nigeria by her parents, Mr. Alex Dzabaku Ocansey and Mrs. Eucharia Ocansey, and happens to be their only child. The actual date she was born is not yet known to us but she’s likely to be in her late twenties or early thirties.

Jacinta Ocansey Educational Background

Jacinta attended her primary and secondary school education in Nigeria. After successfully writing her Senior Secondary School Certificate Exams, she continued to NIIT to learn other skills to improve her knowledge in computing. She later moved to Ghana to receive higher education at Pentecost Univesity College (PUC).

At PUC, she majored in Mass Communications and graduated as one of the best students. She currently holds a degree in Mass Communication. According to her, she dreamt of becoming a doctor but ended up being a comedienne. However, she’s still doing the same thing she would have been doing if she had become one (a doctor). She is a “rib doctor” – she makes people laugh and forget their sorrows.

She is from a Christian home headed by Mr. Alex Dzabaku Ocansey. She has been a Christian all her life up to date. Her relationship with God is in good shape even though she mentioned in an interview that she is not the “churchgoer” type.

Interestingly enough, Jacinta wanted to study hard and become a medical doctor in the future and never took comedy seriously until her mom advised her to do so, as she used to tell little funny jokes that makes her (mother’s) day. She paid heed to her mommy’s advice and the result is what we are witnessing today on every big platform she mounts.

Some of her performances that led to her breakthrough include, her performance at a comedy club at Osu introduced to her by David Oscar and her performance at the 2015 Akwaaba UK Comedy Night at Movenpick Hotel.

In the past, she has also mounted the same stage to perform, with the likes of DKB, Basket Mouth, Buchi, and Clint De Drank.

She has performed in top Comedy Shows in Ghana and Nigeria. Jacinta is currently seeing someone but has not disclosed any plans of settling down yet. She once mentioned that she met him when she was in level one hundred at the University but they became committed from level 200. Talking about her worth, Jacinta revealed that comedy doesn’t really pay much and that she is working her way up. She believes that the more you grow in the industry, the more amount of money you can charge for a gig. According to Jacinta on a reality television show “What Don’t You Know?”, she mentioned that she has gotten a side job for herself aside from comedy but didn’t reveal what it was. She added that even though her career is still moving slowly, her life is much better than before.
