Maiden Ogyeahoho Science and Tech Fair Trains 2,000 Students

Over 2,250 students from basic, Junior High and Senior High Schools in the Western North Region have participated in the inaugural Ogyeahoho Science & Tech Fair, hosted by Avance Media in partnership with the Omanhene of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, and the Ghana Education Service Western North Regional Directorate.

These students, representing approximately fifty (50) schools within the region, attended the fair from Monday, July 22nd to Friday, July 26th, 2024. Among the participating schools were Bibiani Senior High, Queen’s Senior High, Chirano Community Day School, Sefwi Bekwai Senior High School, Wiawso Senior High, and Awaso STEM SHS.

The maiden Ogyeahoho Science and Tech Fair provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity, ingenuity, and problem-solving skills. It was an opportunity to inspire and motivate students by exposing them to the endless possibilities that science and technology offer.

The week-long event aimed to build stronger communities, foster educational excellence, and inspire future leaders. Students engaged in various STEM fields, including coding, website development, virtual reality, app development, DNA extraction, open flexure, robotics, 3D printing, drone technology, artificial intelligence, and digital skills.

The fair, themed “Empowering Tomorrow’s Innovators Today,” was sponsored by Asante Gold Corporation as part of their corporate social responsibility to develop and empower the mining community with support from Solani Global Limited, DK Korankye Company Ltd, and Ghana Bauxite Corporation.

At the launch of the fair, Stephen Asante Yamoah, General Manager of Asante Gold, emphasized the company’s belief in the transformative power of education and its commitment to supporting innovative ideas. He encouraged the students to continue seeking knowledge, questioning the world around them, and never ceasing to learn.

Nana Kwadwo Somiah II, Chief of Sefwi Ntakam, and Abakomahene of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area represented the Omanhene. He noted that the future of communities in the mining enclave looks promising with a focus on science and technology education.

Ifeanyi Adjei, Head of Corporate Communications & Client Services at Avance Media and coordinator of the fair encouraged students to continue pursuing knowledge and exploring the endless possibilities of science and technology.

Western North Regional Director of Education, Mr. Seth Boateng, expressed gratitude to the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, for the initiative and commended the mining firm for their support of educational advancement in the region.

The fair was led and coordinated by Ifeanyi Adjei, Head of Corporate Communications & Client Services at Avance Media, with support from organizations including DK Korankye Company Ltd, Solani Global Ltd, Ghana Bauxite Corporation, Kumasi Hive, Yamoransa Model, Zipline, Arm Engage, UltraNova Events, and WatsUp TV.
