Ayew’s Omission in Ghana’s Recent Victory
Ayew was omitted from Ghana’s 21-man squad in their recent 1-0 victory over Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium. The 33-year-old forward sat on the substitutes bench while Arsenal’s Thomas Partey took on the captaincy. Ghana’s new head coach, Chris Hughton has revealed why he made such a difficult decision. He went on to add that Andre Ayew’s talent is well appreciated and acknowledged but in difficult times like this the rest of the team is equally equipped to do the job.
Hughton stressed that Ayew is still an important member of the club and that his talent is not diminished by his absence from the game. “As head coach, you must make difficult decisions.” “You are aware of Andre’s talent, but you are also aware of the talent of the rest of the team,” Hughton remarked. “Ultimately, it was my choice not to play him, but that doesn’t reflect on his abilities as a player.”
